On March 12, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine introduced a bill to restore water supply through the North Crimean Canal to the temporarily occupied Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. The authors of the bill are 28 MPs from “European Solidarity”, “Voice”, and “Servant of the People” parties.

“The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine declares that any attempts to restore large-scale water supply to the temporarily occupied territories of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol via the North Crimean Canal or in another way or calls for the alleged needs of such restoration are actions that do not meet Ukraine’s international obligations, not aimed at protecting human rights, minorities or indigenous peoples, and at the same time contradict the state interests of Ukraine, bear direct damage to sovereignty, territorial integrity, defense capacities, state and economic security of Ukraine", said in a statement, issued by the “Voice” party.
Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine
– calls on the President of Ukraine, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine and other law enforcement agencies of Ukraine to respond urgently in order to protect the state interests of Ukraine against any attempts to restore large-scale water supply to temporarily occupied territories and against the calls to the ostensible need of such restoration;
– invites the President of Ukraine and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to take urgent measures to strengthen the protection and defense of the facilities of the North Crimean Canal, to strengthen resistance to subversive, propaganda, reconnaissance and sabotage activities of the Russian Federation in the territory of the Kherson region;
– emphasizes that the issue of large-scale water supply to the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol can be considered only after the restoration of state sovereignty of Ukraine over the Crimean peninsula and the adjacent waters of the Black and Azov Seas.
