March 9, 2020

On Monday, March 9, the birthday of the Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko, residents of Simferopol came with flowers decorated with yellow-blue ribbons to his monument. People began to quietly sing the anthem of Ukraine, but Russian security officials banned it. This was reported by the Crimea.Realities media agency.

It is noted that the Crimeans came to the poet's monument with flowers decorated with yellow-blue ribbons, and also lit a candle right there. Some of the people present held Ukrainian flags in their hands.

“People took pictures on the background of the monument, trying to have time to do it before the official ceremony, which was later organized in the park by the Russian authorities in Crimea. Government officials who arrived at the monument of a great poet held the Russian tricolor”,- the statement claimed.

While the official ceremony was taking place, several women with Ukrainian symbols on the side began to quietly sing the national anthem of Ukraine, but they were stopped by  the Russian security officials, warning of responsibility for the “provocation.”
