The CTRC sent a report to the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples

January 17, 2020

The Crimean Tatar Resource Center submitted a report to the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous peoples on the topic “The Right to Land in accordance with the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples”.

The report was presented as part of a study conducted by the Expert Mechanism on the Right to Land in accordance with the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Issues related to violations of indigenous peoples' rights to land, territories, resources and minerals in the peninsula were highlighted.

The CTRC emphasized that such a situation would continue as long as Crimea remained occupied by the Russian Federation and that the Ukrainian state did not adopt the Law on Indigenous Peoples of Ukraine, which would take into account all the rights enshrined in the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

The Expert Mechanism will submit a preliminary version of this study for discussion at its next session, which will take place from 8th  to 12th of June 2020. The final version will be submitted to the Human Rights Council at its 44th session (September 2020).

We remind that in February 2019, the CTRC had already submitted a report to the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous peoples  on the topic  “Indigenous Rights in the Context of Borders, Migration and Movement”, which was published on the EMRIP website.
