Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine strongly protests against Enver Seitosmanov’s illegal sentence

December 6, 2019

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has expressed a strong protest of the Russian Federation due to illegal to sentence the individual involved in the so-called Hizb ut-Tahrir case Enver Seitosmanov, to 17 years in a maximum security colony. This was announced by the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Kateryna Zelenko via Twitter.

“We express decisive protest to the Russian side in connection with the sentence of the so-called Rostov-on-Don Court citizen of Ukraine Enver Seitosmanov on fabricated charges of terrorism. Another evidence of the punitive and unlawful nature of the so-called Russian justice”.

We remind that on July 4, 2019, the North Caucasus District Military Court extended the custody of Enver Seitosmanov until December 20, 2019.

Earlier, the Russian investigation had aggravated Seitosmanov’s  accusation from part two of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code (“participation in the activities of a terrorist organization”) to part one (“organization of activities of a terrorist organization”).

On May 10, 2018, in the village of Orlyne of Sevastopol, Russian security officers searched the home of two brothers, Ernest Seitosmanov and Enver Seitosmanov. The former was released after an interrogation, and Enver was arrested on suspicion of his membership in the Hizb-ut-Tahrir organization banned in Russia. For more than a year he has been detained illegally. During this period, the right to a fair trial and healthcare access was repeatedly violated against him.
