December 5, 2019

On Thursday, December 5, marking the anniversary of the Budapest memorandum, activists of the international movement #LIBERATECRIMEA, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center and the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people rallied in front of the embassies of the countries that signed the memorandum.

Activists held posters saying: "#LIBERATECRIMEA", "Crimea resists!", "Crimea will be free!", "5 years in occupation", "Crimea is ours", "Putin, get out of Crimea!" , "Crimea Shall Be Free!", and others.

“Today marks the 25th anniversary of the Budapest memorandum. Today we want to remind that the Budapest memorandum was grossly violated. The first time it was grossly violated immediately after signing — in accordance with paragraph 3, states have no right to exert pressure on Ukraine. Neither political nor economic. Over the span of many years, we have clearly observed cheese, economic, and gas wars", said the head of the board of the CTRC Eskender Bariiev.

In addition to picket lines, activists also handed official statements to the signatory countries to remind them of their obligations under the Budapest memorandum, in particular, the paragraph 4, which stipulates the obligation of guarantor states to seek immediate action by the UN Security Council in case of armed aggression against Ukraine.

Activists also insist on the implementation of paragraph 6 of the Budapest Memorandum, which obliges signatory states to conduct consultations in cases of non-compliance with the provisions of the Memorandum.
