The defendant in Bakhchysarai “Hizb ut-Tahrir case” Edem Smailov is transferred to the special unit of the Russian pre-trial detention center. This was reported to the “Crimean Solidarity” by his lawyer Nazim Sheikhmambetov, who visited the political prisoner on November 14.

“Edem aga’s health is more or less good, given the conditions in the pre-trial detention center. There is no complaints concerning health, he continues to be held in the pre-trial detention center, in the special unit. He was transferred from one cell of the special unit to another cell. He is kept there with a resident of one of the Caucasian republics, I can’t say which one though", the lawyer said.
Edem Smailov was noted to urge everyone to follow the court hearings as much as possible in order to see for themselves how the anti-terrorism legislation is used in the Russian Federation.
Previously, on 11 October 2017, in Bakhchysarai, occupants held mass searches in six Crimean Tatar houses – Marlen Asanov, Seyran Saliiev, Timur Ibrahimov, Memet Belyalov, Ernest Ametov, Server Zakiryaev. All were detained and charged with the article 205.5 Criminal Code of RF “participation in an organization that is recognized as terrorist by Russia legislature”.
On 21 May 2018, in the occupied Crimea, Russian security forces conducted mass searches in the houses of Crimean Solidarity activists, whereby two Crimean Tatars, Server Mustafayev and Edem Smailov, were detained. They are also charged with participation in “Hizb-ut-Tahrir” that is illegal in Russia.
On December 14, 2018, Server Mustafayev was sent to a psychiatric hospital “for examination”. Mustafayev himself called his placement in a psychiatric hospital a "punitive psychiatry."
In February 2019, Mustafayev was accused of spreading, studying and propagating extremist ideology.
On September 12, 2019, eight defendants in the second Bakhchysarai "Hizb ut-Tahrir case", Marlen Asanov, Zakiryaev Server, Memet Belyalov, Seyran Saliiev, Ernest Ametov, Timur Ibrahimov, Edem Smailov and Mustafaev Server, were transferred from Crimea to Rostov-on-Don.
