Occupants in Crimea are clearing the North Crimean Canal, since, according to the so-called local authorities, they are preparing to resume water supply to Crimea in spring. This was reported by the deputy commander of the Asker civic formation Evelina Arifova on her Facebook page.
“I don’t want to spread panic. But! I can ascertain the fact that now the occupants in Crimea are cleaning the canal – for about a week they have been burning reeds in the canal. According to the so-called local authorities, they are preparing to supply water to Crimea in spring. This is permissible only after a complete de-occupation of Crimea", the message said.
Earlier, the Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, a member of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Eskender Bariiev, in an interview to Krym.Realii, commented on Russia’s demand to make Ukrainian authorities to supply water to the occupied peninsula. He believes that in this case water supply may be an excuse to start negotiations. Also, after the de-occupation of Crimea, it will be necessary to build a separate pipeline to supply water to Crimea, since the North Crimean Canal is unsuitable for work.
