The return of Ukrainian prisoners of war and political prisoners is a bargain for the return of the Russian Federation to G7. Channel 5 was informed about the aforementioned by Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Olena Zerkal.
“The negotiation is conducted at the presidential level. And this is a matter of a series of various signs and steps. If today statements demonstrate us that President Trump and President Macron are considering the possibility of Russia returning to the club of great powers, then of course, it definitely also requires steps from President Putin, which were discussed during his meetings with President Trump and President Macron. And the return of our political prisoners and sailors, of course, is always discussed at all political levels", – Zerkal mentioned.
According to Zerkal, the Ukrainian embassy in Russia is always ready to actively engage in the process of releasing the Kremlin’s prisoners, however, according to the diplomat, as of Wednesday evening, the Russian side failed to provide any official information.
Earlier this year, the American television channel CNN, quoting an anonymous source in the presidential administration of the US, claimed that during a telephone conversation, US President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron agreed that in 2020 Russia should be invited to the G7 summit. Later, the French leader emphasized that the return of the Russian Federation to G7 without resolving the situstion in Ukraine would definitely be a “strategic mistake” and an obvious demonstration of the organization’s “weakness”.
