Russia to expect new sanctions if it destroys the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Simferopol

July 24, 2019

If the Cathedral of the Holy Equal to the Apostles Vladimir and Olga of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Simferopol is destroyed, new sanctions will be imposed on Russia, the leaders of the Russian “Ministry of Property Relations” and “all those involved”. This is the opinion of the archbishop Klement of the Crimea eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, according to “Krym.Realii”.

“If they don’t stop, if they destroy the church – the sanctions will follow. Two months ago I said that we were going to work hard to start the process of sanctions against Russia and specific personalities involved in the destruction of the Church. After my trip to the US, I can say with certainty that the violation of religious freedom that is a fundamental pillar of democratic society and  basic human rights, will be followed by sanctions”, – archbishop Klement stated.

Recall that in July 2019, the so-called Ministry of Property Relations in Crimea started the “renovation” of the buildings of the Cathedral of the Holy Equal to the Apostles Vladimir and Olga of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Simferopol, as a result of which, according to the archbishop Klement, the property of the church was “plundered and broken”.
