27 relatives of political prisoners failed to wait for their release

October 22, 2024

According to the Crimean Solidarity, at least 27 relatives of
political prisoners died before their release. Among them are fathers,
mothers, and children.

Severe stress, separation and constant worries often lead to serious
illnesses. For example, after the searches, the father of political
prisoner Iryna Danilovych, Bronislav Danilovych, was diagnosed with
cancer. Vadim Bektemirov’s father, Ziiadin Bektemirov, died of a heart
attack, and Enver Omerov’s mother, Zore Omerova, had a chronic illness
exacerbated.

Over the past two weeks, the father and grandfather of political
prisoner Ametkhan Umerov have been added to this list of mourners. It
is especially painful to experience such losses in the walls of the
detention center.

These tragic statistics emphasize the need to intensify efforts to
release all Crimean political prisoners. The long wait must end and
they must return to their families.
