The action “Freedom to Crimea! #LIBERATECRIMEA”, dedicated to the 5th anniversary of resistance to the Russian occupation was held in Sofia, Bulgaria. The event was also held in order to remind Bulgarian society that the struggle for independence and the right to a Euro-Atlantic choice continues in Ukraine, – reports “Glavkom”.
“These days it is five years since the Russian Federation invaded and then annexed the Ukrainian Crimea, hiding behind the “will of the people”, expressed at gunpoint on the so-called “referendum”. Then the whole world witnessed the military aggression of Russia against Ukraine in Donetsk and the Luhansk region. And this war against Ukraine continues today. Crimea is gradually turning into a militarized zone, which already represents a threat not only for the whole of Ukraine, but also for Europe. Both the European Union and NATO are aware of this threat”, – said Elena Kotseva, Head of the Union of Ukrainian Organizations in Bulgaria "Mother of Ukraine", who organized the action.
#LIBERATECRIMEA is an international civil movement for the de-occupation of Crimea and solidarity with the Crimean Tatar people. It is aimed at strengthening the voice of civil society, calling for the cessation of the illegal occupation of Crimea, the flagrant violation of international law and the root cause of the countless human rights violations committed in Crimea since February 2014.
