Reshat Ametov was involuntary abducted 5 years ago – a symbol of the struggle for Crimea

March 3, 2019

Reshat Ametov is the first victim of Russian occupants in Crimea. 5 years ago, on March 3, 2014, Reshat Ametov was kidnapped by unknown persons in camouflage uniforms in the center of Simferopol, where he conducted a single picket against the occupation of Crimea. The body of the man was found on March 15 in the field of Zemlyanichnoe village, Belogorsk region, with stab wounds in the area of the left orbit and numerous other body injuries. His head was bound up with scotch tape, his hands were handcuffed. He had three young children.

In April of the same year, the Investigation Committee of the Investigation Department of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Crimea opened a criminal case on the fact of the murder of Reshat Ametov. In 2015, the case was suspended. The “investigation” did not identify those involved in the murder of Reshat Ametov.

In the commentary to Krym.Realii, Eskender Bariiev, a member of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, the Head of the CTRC indicated that "this case is practically closed. No one is investigating it. Because, let's say, everything indicates that this was an order of the leaders of self-defense". The executor was "self-defense", and the order was given, I think, by the first persons who head this "Republic". According to Bariiev, Reshat Ametov is a symbol of struggle of 2014 for the integrity of Ukraine against Russian aggression.

In May 2017, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed a decree awarding the title of Hero of Ukraine to Reshat Ametov.
