UNESCO adopted a decision Monitoring the situation in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea (Ukraine)

On Friday, October 13, the 217th session of the UNESCO Executive Board adopted a decision Monitoring the situation in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea (Ukraine).

According to the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Emine Dzheppar, the organization continues to monitor and record violations in the temporarily occupied Crimea within its capabilities.

“This is the 15th decision of UNESCO’s governing body since the beginning of the illegal annexation of Crimea. It is based on the report of the Director General of the Organization, which contains information about violations by the occupying authorities of international norms, including UNESCO conventions”,- she noted.

The document records specific facts of destruction of cultural heritage, oppression of the rights of the Crimean Tatar people, journalists, restrictions on the right to education in their native language, freedom of speech and religion.
