Representatives of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people met with the Deputy Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia

On Monday, February 22, in the office of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, a meeting was held with the Deputy Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to Ukraine Ms. Karina Leia. Representatives of the Mejlis informed the diplomat about the situation with human rights violations in the occupied Crimea and about the repressions against the indigenous Crimean Tatar people.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to Ukraine Mrs. Karina Leia, Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov, Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Ilmi Umerov, Head of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, head of the Department of Legal Affairs and Foreign Affairs of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Eskender Bariiev, Riza Shevkiev and Gayana Yuksel.

Representatives of  Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people informed the diplomat about the situation with human rights violations in the occupied Crimea, about repressions against the indigenous people of Crimea and ethnic Ukrainians. In addition, the interlocutors discussed future cooperation, including on the formation of lists of personal sanctions based on the law analogous to the Magnitsky Act (On Emigration) and the possible application of the methodology developed by the experts of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center for assessing the feasibility of introducing personal sanctions against persons, who collaborate with the occupation authorities.
