We are concerned about the searches that took place in the homes of activists – Turkey

February 22, 2021

The Turkish Foreign Ministry condemned the mass searches and detentions of activists on February 17, 2021 in the occupied Crimea and called on the Russian Federation to stop such a practice. The press service of the department reported about this.

“We are concerned about the raids that took place in the homes of activists. We call for an end to this practice against the Crimean Tatars, who form an integral part of the Crimean peninsula”,- the statement said.

The department once again reminded that Turkey does not recognize the illegal occupation of Crimea and will continue to support the Crimean Tatars.

We remind that on February 17, Russian security officials conducted seven searches in the houses of the Crimean Tatars in Bilohirsk, Bakhchysarai, Simferopol, Sevastopol and the Sovietsk district of the occupied Crimea. The detainees are charged with Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The so-called Kyiv District Court and the so-called Leninsk District Court have chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention until April 15, 2021 for the detained Crimean Tatars – Ernest Ibrahimov, Tymur Yalkabov, Azamat Eiupov, Oleh Fedorov, Lenur Seidametov and Yashar Shykhametov.
