On December 10, the world celebrates International Human Rights Day, the anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. The document enshrined basic human rights and freedoms, but not all states adhere to them. In particular, after the occupation of Crimea by the Russian Federation in 2014, the human rights situation on the peninsula has been steadily deteriorating.<\/p>\n
Since the occupation, thousands of activists have been targeted for repression because of their pro-Ukrainian stance. Fabricated criminal cases are being brought against them, searches, detentions, interrogations, and arrests are being carried out, and enforced disappearances are taking place.<\/p>\n
The indigenous Crimean Tatar people, who are subjected to repression, find themselves in a particularly difficult situation. According to the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, during the entire period of the occupation of Crimea, the number of political prisoners and those prosecuted in criminal cases has reached 486, 272 of whom are representatives of the Crimean Tatar people.<\/p>\n
In violation of international law, Russia continues to carry out mass repression and exert pressure on Crimean Tatars and pro-Ukrainian activists on the territory of the Crimean peninsula. According to the CTRC, between 2017 and 2025, the following violations were recorded on the peninsula:<\/p>\n
555 searches (381 against Crimean Tatars)<\/p>\n
1,745 detentions (1,281 against Crimean Tatars)<\/p>\n
1,707 interrogations (1,184 against Crimean Tatars)<\/p>\n
1,818 arrests (1,204 against Crimean Tatars)<\/p>\n
3,739 violations of the right to a fair trial (2,276 against Crimean Tatars)<\/p>\n
709 violations of the right to health (486 against Crimean Tatars)<\/p>\n
454 deportations (354 against Crimean Tatars).<\/p>\n
In total, between 2017 and 2025, 10,727 violations of fundamental human rights were recorded in occupied Crimea, 7,166 of them were conducted against representatives of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people.<\/p>\n
The Crimean Tatar Resource Center wants to remind Ukrainian society about the occupation of Crimea, about the human rights violations on the peninsula committed by the occupiers, about the systematic repression of the Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar peoples by the Russian Federation, and about the fact that after 12 years, the situation is only getting worse.<\/p>\n
Moreover, this practice is spread by occupants to the newly occupied territories of Ukraine \u2013 Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions, where the occupiers are trying to intimidate people in the same way.<\/p>\n
We would like to remind you that the Crimean Tatar Resource Center not only records human rights violations, but also systematically informs the international community about the crimes of the Russian Federation in the occupied territories of Ukraine.<\/p>\n
