On 18 May 2024, we mark the 81 anniversary of the genocide of the Crimean Tatar people. On this day, the whole world honours the memory of the victims of this terrible crime and expresses its solidarity with Crimean Tatars living in Ukraine and abroad.<\/p>\n

But why is the Deportation of 1944 a genocide of the Crimean Tatar people?<\/p>\n

The purpose of this criminal act was the destruction of an entire people. In total, about 238,500 people suffered from deportation, and 46.2% of all those deported died in the first years of deportation. In addition, the Soviet authorities did everything to destroy the language, culture, history and traditions of the Crimean Tatar people.<\/p>\n
