The Register of damages caused by the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine (RD4U) has announced the opening of applications for compensation for damages caused by the war. This Register is a key international tool for recording the damage caused by Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine since February 24, 2022. This is stated on the official website of the Register of Damages for Ukraine.The register will accept applications from individuals, businesses and the state of Ukraine for more than 40 categories of damage, including loss of life, body injury, torture, sexual violence, forced deportation, loss of property, as well as damage to cultural an historical heritage and the environment.<\/p>\n

The application process will start in stages. Starting from April 2, 2024, applications will be accepted only for damage or destruction of residential real estate. Other categories, such as applications related to Ukraine’s critical infrastructure and violations of the rights of those most affected by the war, will be opened within a year, but some of them will be opened in a few months.<\/p>\n

It is expected that the number of applications submitted will be unprecedented – from 6 to 8 million. For the first category alone, the Registry predicts 300 to 600 thousand applications.<\/p>\n

From the start of the Registry’s operation, those who have already applied through the eRestoration program and received an inspection certificate from the local authorities will be able to apply. Soon, every owner of destroyed housing, including those in the temporarily occupied territories, will be able to apply.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday we are making a big step in restoring justice and compensating for the damage caused to Ukraine by the war. The Register of Damages is now not only an idea, but also a practical tool to ensure fair compensation for everyone who suffered,\u201d – <\/em>said Markiyan Kliuchkovskyi, Executive Director of the Register of Damages for Ukraine.<\/p>\n
