Russia had high hopes for the BRICS summit in Kazan, but the results
\ndid not meet expectations. Ihor Tyshkevych, an expert at the Institute
\nfor the Future, said this in a commentary to the Russian media.<\/p>\n

For Russia, it was important to demonstrate \u201csupport\u201d from the summit
\nparticipants and resolve several key issues:<\/p>\n

I. Bypassing sanctions and creating an economic system based on BRICS<\/p>\n

\u201cThis idea did not find support among the participants. The parties<\/em>
\nconfined themselves to announcing an increase in mutual lending in<\/em>
\nnational currencies, which is already part of the policy of China,<\/em>
\nIndia and South Africa to strengthen their own currencies and<\/em>
\npolitical influence. The dreams of creating a \u201cnew digital currency\u201d <\/em>have not been realized – the BRICS partners are not interested in such<\/em>
\ninitiatives of the Kremlin,<\/em>\u201d -the report says.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

II. Expansion of BRICS to strengthen the influence of Russia<\/p>\n

\u201cRussia has been trying to attract new members who will vote in BRICS
\nin sync with it. However, on the eve of the summit, Kazakhstan stated
\nthat membership in BRICS is not a priority at this stage. Other
\ncountries in the region have also been cautious about this idea,\u201d
\nTyshkevich said.<\/p>\n

III. Support in the war against Ukraine<\/p>\n

\u201cThe final document of the summit stated the inadmissibility of
\nscaling up the war. This can be interpreted as an unwillingness to
\nspread hostilities to the territory of Russia. It is important to take
\ninto account Russia’s approach of \u201cescalation for the sake of
\nde-escalation\u201d in order to exchange concessions on minor issues for
\nmore important aspects during possible negotiations. This wording
\nlooks unpleasant for Putin,\u201d – the expert emphasized.<\/p>\n

The Crimean Tatar Resource Center considers the results of the BRICS
\nsummit in Kazan as another example of the lack of international
\nsupport for Russia in its war of aggression against Ukraine. Despite
\nall the Kremlin’s attempts to gain \u201csupport\u201d in this format, most of
\nthe participating countries have demonstrated their unwillingness to
