On Monday, 8 July, the 17th session of the UN Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples began in Geneva (Switzerland), which will last until 12 July.<\/div>\n

We would like to remind that the Chairman of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Centre, Chairman of the Department of External Relations and Human Rights Protection of\u00a0 Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People Eskender Bariiev and lawyer of the CTRC Liudmyla Korotkikh will actively participate in this event.<\/p>\n

Brief summary<\/p>\n

The Expert Mechanism provides the Human Rights Council with expertise and advice on the rights of indigenous peoples. It assists Member States in achieving the goals of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.<\/p>\n

Each year, the Expert Mechanism holds a five-day session attended by representatives of States, indigenous peoples, indigenous peoples’ organizations, civil society, intergovernmental organizations and academia.<\/p>\n
