The Crimean Tatar Resource Center launches a social media storm “Flag Day is a day of solidarity with the indigenous people of Ukraine” dedicated to the Day of the Crimean Tatar Flag.<\/p>\n

The Crimean Tatar flag is a blue cloth with a golden coat of arms (tamga) in the upper left corner. The blue color is a symbol of purity and freedom, honesty and loyalty, impeccability and strength, and the tamga is a symbol of power and literally can be translated as a signature or a seal.<\/p>\n

Since the beginning of Russia’s occupation of Crimea in 2014, Crimean Tatars have been subjected to severe repression because of their support for Ukraine. They were detained, arrested, interrogated, and even killed. In such a situation, the Crimean Tatar flag became a symbol of resilience, identity and struggle for Crimea not only for the Crimean Tatars themselves, but also for the whole of Ukraine and the world.<\/p>\n
