5 years ago, on March 27, 2019, Russian security forces conducted massive searches in 26 houses of Crimean Tatars.<\/p>\n
Some activists were seized literature that the security officers had planted themselves. In addition to books and brochures, people were confiscated phones, tablets, laptops and passports.<\/p>\n
The law enforcers behaved rudely. They used physical force against the detainees. Lawyers, who came to the place of searches, were not allowed to see their clients.<\/p>\n
As a result, 20 people were detained, who are suspected of involvement in the organization “Hizb ut-Tahrir” banned in the Russian Federation. On March 28, three more Crimean Tatar activists were detained and their homes were searched in their absence.<\/p>\n
On March 27-28, the occupation court arrested all 23 Crimean Tatar activists detained after the searches. They were elected a measure of restraint in the form of detention. Subsequently, all the defendants in the “case” were repeatedly extended the term of arrest.<\/p>\n
At night from April 16 to 17, 2019, Raim Ayvazov was detained, who was also included in the same group. And on June 10, 2019, Eskender Suleymanov, brother of political prisoner Ruslan Suleymanov, who was arrested during the mass searches on March 27, 2019, was also detained. His case was also merged with the criminal case in which his sibling is being tried.<\/p>\n
Thus, the “second Simferopol group” was increased to the number of 25 people.
\nA number of defendants in the “case” have already received huge sentences in colonies for spurious reasons. Moreover, due to the illegal actions of the occupation authorities and the failure to provide proper medical care in Russian places of detention, Dzhemil Gafarov, who was tried in the framework of this “case”, has already died.<\/p>\n
This policy of the Russian Federation is a demonstration of the struggle against dissent, as well as religious and political beliefs of people in the occupied Crimea.<\/p>\n
The Russian Federation is misusing its legislation for political purposes, in particular to suppress the non-violent struggle of Crimean Tatars and their protest against the occupation of Crimea. Moreover, the occupants increase repression against the defendants of the “Hizb ut-Tahrir case”, increasing the sentences up to 19 years of imprisonment, assigning the first years of imprisonment, putting political prisoners on a vocational register.<\/p>\n
The Crimean Tatar Resource Center demands the cancellation of all sentences to the defendants of the “Hizb ut-Tahrir case” and the immediate release of other political prisoners.<\/p>\n
The Crimean Tatar Resource Center calls on the international community to increase pressure on the Russian Federation to stop political persecution in Crimea, as well as to impose personal sanctions on those responsible for human rights violations on the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimea.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
