On 14 March, a political prisoner Leniie Umerova turned 26. She is forced to celebrate her birthday in the FSB torture chambers, where she was illegally placed by the occupation authorities of the peninsula.<\/p>\n

We would like to remind you that more than a year ago, on 4 December 2022, Russian security forces detained Leniie Umerova after crossing the Georgian-Russian border, allegedly for violating the rules of the restricted zone and for not having Russian documents. The girl was travelling from Kyiv to the occupied Crimea due to her father’s deteriorating health.<\/p>\n
Until March 16, Leniie was held in the Centre for the Temporary Detention of Foreign Citizens near Vladikavkaz. The occupiers found the girl guilty of “violating the regime of the state border” (Part 1 of Article 18 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation) and fined her 2,000 rubles. After that, she was repeatedly subjected to new administrative arrests under various pretexts, including allegedly for “disobedience to law enforcement officers”. At this time, Leniie’s passport as a citizen of Ukraine was taken away.<\/p>\n
On 4 May, her parents tried to visit Leniie in the detention centre, but they were not allowed in, saying that she was no longer there. They physically travelled around various Russian ‘services’ looking for her.<\/p>\n
As a result, it became known that Leniie was already in Moscow in Lefortovo. On 5 May, the Lefortovo court in Moscow arrested the girl for 2 months on suspicion of ‘high treason’ (Article 275 of the Criminal Code). Subsequently, the term of detention was repeatedly extended.<\/p>\n
As it turned out, the occupiers held the girl under the pretext of “administrative arrests” in order to prepare a criminal case against Ukrainian citizen Leniie Umerova.<\/p>\n
The Crimean Tatar Resource Centre expresses its strong protest against the arbitrariness of the occupiers and states that such actions of the occupiers are illegal, politically motivated and criminal. By such actions, the Russian authorities violate the provisions of the Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War.<\/p>\n
