Today, February 2, the UN Court will decide on jurisdiction in the case of Ukraine against Russia.<\/p>\n
The court is expected to decide whether it can open main proceedings in the case. If the complaint is found partially or fully acceptable, then consideration of the case on its merits can begin.<\/p>\n
Let us recall that on January 16,\u00a02017<\/span>, Ukraine began a case against the Russian Federation in the International Court of Justice. Kyiv accuses Moscow of numerous and systematic violations of the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism and the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. In April\u00a02017<\/span>, the International Court of Justice decided to apply temporary measures against the actions of the Russian Federation in occupied Crimea. In September\u00a02018<\/span>, the Russian Federation submitted objections to the UN International Court of Arbitration regarding the jurisdiction of the tribunal. On June 3,\u00a02019<\/span>, the International Court of Justice began to consider the Russian Federation\u2019s objections to the jurisdiction of the court in the case Ukraine v. Russia.<\/p>\n Later, the International Court of Justice published a Ukrainian memorandum documenting the violation by the Russian Federation of the Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. The document, along with data from other Ukrainian human rights organizations, includes materials collected by the Crimean Tatar Resource Center.<\/p>\n On June 6, public hearings began in the case Ukraine vs. Russia, which will be held at the International Court of Justice.<\/p>\n On January 31,\u00a02024<\/span>, the International Court of Justice announced a decision in the case of Ukraine\u2019s claim of Russian financing of terrorism and Russia\u2019s violation of the International Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.<\/p>\n The International Court of Justice found that the Russian Federation violated:<\/p>\n the International Convention for the Prevention of the Financing of Terrorism, without conducting an investigation into probable facts of terrorist financing in relation to events in the territory of the eastern regions of Ukraine.<\/p>\n The International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, due to the fact that the Russian Federation destroyed education in Crimea and training in the Ukrainian language has been unavailable since\u00a02014<\/span>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Today, February 2, the UN Court will decide on jurisdiction in the case of Ukraine against Russia.
