{"id":226699,"date":"2023-04-22T11:54:07","date_gmt":"2023-04-22T08:54:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ctrcenter.orgthe-president-of-ukraine-signed-a-law-banning-propaganda-of-russian-imperial-policy"},"modified":"2023-04-22T11:54:07","modified_gmt":"2023-04-22T08:54:07","slug":"the-president-of-ukraine-signed-a-law-banning-propaganda-of-russian-imperial-policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ctrcenter.org\/en\/the-president-of-ukraine-signed-a-law-banning-propaganda-of-russian-imperial-policy","title":{"rendered":"The President of Ukraine signed a law banning propaganda of Russian imperial policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"xfmc2\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">President Volodymyr Zelensky signed the law &#8220;On Condemnation and Prohibition of Propaganda of Russian Imperial Policy in Ukraine and Decolonization of Toponymy&#8221;, which establishes a ban on the distribution of symbols of Russian imperial policy throughout Ukraine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"xfmc2\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">This is discussed on the website of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"xfmc2\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">In accordance with the norms of the adopted law, the production, distribution and public use of symbols of Russian imperial policy in Ukraine are prohibited.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"xfmc2\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The symbols of Russian imperial policy include, in particular:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"xfmc2\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">&#8211; monuments dedicated to persons who held senior positions in government and administration, political organizations, parties, armed formations of state formations of Russia and participated or contributed to the implementation of Russian imperial policy;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"xfmc2\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">&#8211; monuments dedicated to individuals who publicly supported, glorified or justified Russian imperial policies, called for Russification or Ukrainophobia;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"xfmc2\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">&#8211; names of geographical objects and objects of local toponymy in honor of the above-mentioned persons, or names in honor of Russian cities and other geographical, historical and cultural objects of Russia;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"xfmc2\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">&#8211; flags and anthems of state formations of Russia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"xfmc2\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">In pursuance of the requirements of this law, state authorities and local self-government bodies must remove from public space monuments dedicated to persons involved in the implementation of Russian imperial policy, as well as rename streets, squares, parks, squares, geographical objects that contain the symbols of Russian imperial policy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"xfmc2\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">In addition, the law provides that geographical objects that have Russified names (in particular, Yuzhne, Severodonetsk, Yuzhnoukrainsk) must bring their names in line with Ukrainian spelling or return their historical name.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"xfmc2\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The law enters into force three months after its publication.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"xfmc2\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">We remind you that earlier the CTRC and the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people launched an information campaign on toponymy We&#8217;ll return the names &#8211; we&#8217;ll return Crimea.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Volodymyr Zelensky signed the law &#8220;On Condemnation and Prohibition of Propaganda of Russian Imperial Policy in Ukraine and Decolonization of Toponymy&#8221;, which establishes a ban on the distribution of symbols of Russian imperial policy throughout Ukraine.
