The Crimean Tatar Resource Center calls on Ukraine and the world to impose personal sanctions against those responsible for human rights violations in the occupied Crimea. The CTRC team has already sent the relevant lists by specific names to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the Office of the President of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, as well as the embassies of the USA, Great Britain, Canada, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and the EU.<\/p>\n
We emphasize that all actions of the Russian Federation, starting with the occupation of Crimea, are criminal and flagrantly violate international law.<\/p>\n
However, so far, EU sanctions against Crimea have been applied only against those involved in the violation of Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity, and not against those who are directly involved in human rights violations on the occupied peninsula. This means that judges, investigators, prosecutors, FSB officers and representatives of law enforcement agencies remain unpunished.<\/p>\n
Recall that the Crimean Tatar Resource Center is systematically working towards the adaptation of laws-analogues of the Magnitsky Act in order to introduce personal sanctions against those responsible for human rights violations in Crimea. We have developed a methodology for assessing the feasibility of imposing personal sanctions against persons in the temporarily occupied territories who cooperate with the occupation administrations of the Russian Federation.<\/p>\n
Based on this methodology, the experts of the CTRC presented a list of 166 people who violate human rights in the occupied Crimea. In addition, a classification of persons responsible for\u00a0 persecution of political prisoners, their relatives and Crimean activists was presented:<\/p>\n
