{"id":223096,"date":"2023-03-17T17:18:11","date_gmt":"2023-03-17T15:18:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ctrcenter.orgctrc-calls-for-renaming-reservoirs-in-crimea"},"modified":"2023-03-22T11:44:30","modified_gmt":"2023-03-22T09:44:30","slug":"ctrc-calls-for-renaming-reservoirs-in-crimea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ctrcenter.org\/en\/ctrc-calls-for-renaming-reservoirs-in-crimea","title":{"rendered":"CTRC calls for renaming reservoirs in Crimea"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Crimean Tatar Resource Center sent a letter to the State Agency for Water Resources of Ukraine and the State Agency for Land Reclamation and Water Management of Ukraine with a request to facilitate the renaming of reservoirs in Crimea.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cOn the territory of the Crimean peninsula, there are a number of names of geographical objects that are subject to renaming in accordance with the Law of Ukraine On the Condemnation of the Communist and National Socialist (Nazi) Totalitarian Regimes in Ukraine and the Prohibition of Propaganda of Their Symbols, in particular, the Part<span lang=\"EN-US\">y<\/span>zanske Reservoir\u201d<span lang=\"EN-US\">,-<\/span>\u00a0the statement<span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0claims<\/span>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"xfmc2\">Experts note that there are still many names left in Crimea that have no historical basis and are the result of Russification and Sovietization of the peninsula. The return of historically based toponyms to the map of Crimea must be prepared before the Ukrainian flag will fly over the Crimean peninsula again, so that after the de-occupation, no time is wasted on this.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"xfmc2\">\u201cNow there are three laws that allow to restore the historical toponyms of Crimea: On the restoration of the rights of persons deported on a national basis, On decommunization, On indigenous peoples. It is important to note that in addition to settlements, we must also talk about geographical objects, among which there are hydrographic objects. These objects also have either communist names or names associated with the names of settlements of the colonial period\u201d<span lang=\"EN-US\">,-<\/span>\u00a0explained Eskender Bariiev, Chairman of the Board of the CTRC.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"xfmc2\">The\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-US\">CT<\/span>RC proposes to rename the names of 14 reservoirs. The proposed names are based on the names of those settlements that were or are located near these reservoirs.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ctrcenter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/vodni-obyekty-krym_page-0001.jpg\" \/><img decoding=\"async\"
