The meeting was attended by 30 experts representing 7 working groups: The policy of non-recognition and sanctions, Human rights and IHL, Safe track, Cultural heritage, Humanitarian policy, Ecology and economy, Restoration of the rights of Indigenous Peoples as an instrument for the deoccupation of Crimea.<\/p>\n

Representatives of the working groups informed their colleagues about the state of affairs and directions of their work with the start of a full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine.<\/p>\n

The situation in the occupied Crimea and ways to update this topic at the international and national levels were discussed. Special attention was paid to the newly occupied territories, in particular, the Kherson region, where the Russians use the same repressions as on the peninsula.<\/p>\n

Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, Head of the Department of Legal and Foreign Affairs of  Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Eskender Bariiev took part in the meeting as a coordinator of the working group Restoration of the rights of indigenous peoples as a tool for the de-occupation of Crimea.<\/p>\n

In his speech, Bariiev informed about the activities of the working group:<\/p>\n

Documenting human rights violations both in the territories of the occupied Crimea and Sevastopol, as well as in the newly occupied territories. For example, lawyers from the Crimean Tatar Resource Center developed a questionnaire to document human rights violations and war crimes in the occupied territories and to collect testimony from IDPs and refugees.<\/p>\n

Active work with indigenous peoples. In particular, representatives of the group took part in the UN forum on indigenous issues, held a thematic side event. In addition, work is being done with the indigenous peoples of the Russian Federation so that their representatives do not take part in the armed forces of the Russian Federation and the war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Work directly with the heads of the local councils who are located in the border areas with hostilities, as well as in the occupied territories. In particular, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center held an online security training for representatives of local governments, which was attended by 40 participants from all over Ukraine.<\/p>\n

“It is important to raise the topic of Crimea every day. The Crimean Tatar Resource Center conducts extensive information campaigns to ensure that Crimea is constantly on the agenda.
