The moderator was Tetiana Podvorniak, communications manager of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center. The representative of the CTRC stressed that the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms is an international agreement between the member states of the Council of Europe. The Convention establishes the inalienable rights and freedoms of every person and obliges states that have ratified the Convention to guarantee these rights to every person under their jurisdiction.<\/p>\n

“Today the Convention protects the rights of about 830 million people in Europe, including residents of the occupied Crimea. The translation of this document into the Crimean Tatar language in the current conditions, when we daily record the oppression of both the representatives of the Crimean Tatar people and the Crimean Tatar language, is very important. But it was important to make a professional, high-quality translation, because when adopting the text of the Convention, every word was agreed that has its own value, its own meaning and carries its own semantic load”,- said Podvorniak.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

“Today we declare that for the first time in the history of the Crimean Tatar people the text of the European Convention on Human Rights has been translated into the Crimean Tatar language<\/a>. We have started further procedures so that this text is posted on the official resources of the Council of Europe, including ECHR”,- said Eskender Bariiev.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

According to the Head of the Board of the CTRC, the main difference between the European Convention on Human Rights and other international treaties in the field of human rights is the existence of a really operating mechanism for the protection of declared rights in the form of the European Court of Human Rights. Therefore, it is very important for the indigenous people to translate this document into the Crimean Tatar language, as an important tool for the protection of rights and freedoms.<\/p>\n

“We really set ourselves ambitious goals – to do everything possible to ensure that the main existing significant legal documents in the world were translated into the Crimean Tatar language and subsequently contribute to the emergence of a good Crimean Tatar law dictionary”,- Zarema Bariieva noted.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

To translate the Convention into the Crimean Tatar language, a working expert group of philologists, publicists and lawyers was formed. According to them, this initiative is very important in the context of the preservation and development of the Crimean Tatar language. Also, the translation of the document will unite people around the problem of studying the Crimean Tatar language and will give impetus to new scientific research.<\/p>\n

Professor, Doctor of Law Borys Babin, who took a consultative part in the translation, noted the importance of the document.<\/p>\n

“The translation of the Convention into the Crimean Tatar language is important both for the protection of the fundamental rights of the representatives of the indigenous people and for the realization of their collective rights to preserve their linguistic identity. The mechanisms of the Council of Europe are of exceptional importance for the protection of the rights of the Crimean Tatars, and the Convention occupies a key place in the system of these mechanisms. Approval of the profile law of Ukraine on indigenous peoples, where the corresponding status and natural rights of autochthonous ethnic communities are formalized, should receive an appropriate European and global reflection, and for this, the significance of the translation of the Convention is seen as exceptional”,- emphasized Borys Babin.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The participants of the event believe that the registration of the translation of the document into the Crimean Tatar language will be a demonstration of the subjectivity of the Crimean Tatar people and adherence to the rule of law.<\/p>\n
