I would like to agree with today's speakers that there are many issues related to the domestic and foreign policy of modern communist China. The main problem is not China as such, but the communist regime in China. We need to understand and have a common approach to the international situation, where China and Russia are two states, where totalitarianism, authoritarianism and imperialism are very strongly developed, as well as countries that have not only the past – communist and socialist – but also the present. And we need to constantly talk about this.<\/p>\n
Today we have a new statement from Mr. Karaganov – this is the Russian ideologist, one of the main ideologues of Putin – that Russia today is China's satellite in the confrontation with the world. This is the official policy of the Russian Federation and is also implemented in the territories occupied by Russia. And we must remember that in reality, Russia and communist China are trying to change the world order even when it comes to legal issues.<\/p>\n
I want to remind you of the so-called Shanghai Convention, which these countries have signed, aimed at international criminalization and the prohibition of so-called extremism at the international level. They do not talk about terrorism, they do not talk about violent extremism, but in principle, about any activity that does not support the existing government in a particular country. And this is the common position of both Russia and China.<\/p>\n
If we talk about Russia, then this is a policy that is being implemented in the occupied Crimea, and by China, in particular in East Turkestan. And when I hear about concentration camps, I can talk about one direct example. You know that there is China and the so-called Donetsk People's Republic. And in fact they have the same approach, the same authors. There is no fundamental difference between these authors, since these so-called people's republics were created using communist totalitarianism, which excludes any democracy in any context. And we hear a lot about politics, about international politics.<\/p>\n
I can agree that if we are talking, for example, about the UN, of course, the position of communist China in the UN and other organizations is directly related to the Russian position on Crimea, human rights and other issues. And I know that there are many countries that are not friends of Ukraine, and there are countries that do not support democracy and human rights, but they, in principle, do not have exactly such a common anti-Ukrainian position as China and Russia.<\/p>\n
And I tell my students that there are two big mistakes made by the UN: the first in the 70s, when the Chinese communist government illegally won a seat on the UN Security Council. And the second mistake was made in 1991, when Russia got a seat in the UN Security Council on illegal grounds, that is, we have two illegal permanent members of the UN Security Council. What can we expect from such illegal structures? I think nothing good.<\/p>\n
Returning to investment policy, I can say that, indeed, China's investment policy is very simple. I see its counterpart every day at the Odesa markets. Because there you can see small shops in which everyone who wants to get just some kind of easy money. They do not ask borrowers to fulfill any requirements, they simply give money for which people will buy vodka or drugs, but then collectors will come to them and they will be left without housing on the street. And in this way, in general, one can illustrate the investment policy of communist China.<\/p>\n
China does not demand anything from countries that become China's debtors, but they use their territories to spread their own totalitarian regime. And we are already seeing the first results of this instrument in Ukraine. When we hear about Chinese money from high-ranking officials in Ukraine, it is not only about money, but also about ideology. We hear that it turns out that the Chinese Communist Party is not that bad. And I hope that one day such statements by officials will be properly assessed because they must be qualified in accordance with the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Because we have a special article in the code that was included after the Revolution of Dignity, which criminalized totalitarian symbols and ideology, both communist and national socialist.<\/p>\n
In due time, I am sure that people who claim that the Chinese Communist Party is not that bad will be punished accordingly.<\/p>\n
What does the future hold for us? We have heard about this more than once before that communist China has an economic interest in the occupied Crimea. A small example: communist China ranks first among the exporters of Crimean goods from third countries, except for the Russian Federation and Ukraine, which are not post-Soviet. Of course, if we are talking about Belarus or Kazakhstan, then they continue to export from Crimea, but they have a relatively small market and they are in a customs union with Russia and, in principle, it is difficult for them to separate Crimean goods from Russian ones. Especially when we are talking about products that are not entirely produced there.<\/p>\n
In communist China, the situation is different. And they, in principle, can differentiate between the Crimean and Russian products. And I will never believe that Crimean goods are important for China, because Crimea produces mainly agricultural products and many other cheap sources of such products in the world, closer to China. In fact, we are talking here not only about the economic, but also about the political position of China. Because there is no economic justification why these goods are exported from Crimea to China.<\/p>\n
We also have hundreds or thousands of students studying at the so-called universities of Crimea in Simferopol and Sevastopol. I can ask one rhetorical question: before 2014, these establishments were probably no worse in Ukraine, but are they the best in the world? I'm not sure about that. But in communist China, students are constantly sent to the so-called universities of Crimea, because the communist government controls such education in Crimea, they control businessmen who participate in investment projects in Crimea and thus carry out illegal actions and directly support Russian aggression and an attempt to annex Ukrainian territory. At the same time, we do not see any assessment of these illegal actions on the part of our government. On the contrary, we hear a lot of good things about the so-called eastern vector from our diplomats, especially from the Minister of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n
But I do not believe that this is due to the eastern vector of development, it seems to me that this is just the weakness of other areas of our foreign policy, which makes us vulnerable. This is a kind of lack of immunity from the state, the lack of ensuring the necessary level of national security, justice and human rights protection, which is why the virus is now entering Ukraine. And I'm not talking about the coronavirus, I'm talking about the virus of the ideology of communist China. And this, in a certain dimension, is more dangerous for Ukraine, even in comparison with the Russian ideology. Because we do not even assess how much this could threaten Ukraine and how important it is for our community. This is my opinion and I hope that we, as human rights defenders, will continue this discussion of the situation in China in the future, together with the representatives of the civilized world.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
