“The spread of fakes is extremely dangerous. With the help of fake news, you can not only manipulate people's opinions, but also unleash a whole war! Yes, fakes, disinformation and propaganda are the main tools of the Russian Federation, which it has been using for decades, unfortunately, also in the temporarily occupied territories, including Crimea”,- said Tetiana Podvorniak.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The communications manager of the CTRC added that fakes in the media of the occupied Crimea are not a new phenomenon at all. At present, the CTRC sees the importance of monitoring and debunking fakes about NATO, given the high relevance of this topic.<\/p>\n

Eskender Bariiev stressed that if in the 1990s-2000s Russia used to intimidate the citizens of Ukraine with the threat of NATO with the help of bribed politicians, today, in the temporarily occupied territories, it systematically uses not only the media, but also conducts information campaigns and exhibitions. What the Kremlin is broadcasting is complete disinformation with no connection to reality.<\/p>\n

“We are read in Crimea, we are trusted, therefore the Crimean Tatar Resource Center conducts explanatory work with the population of Crimea by comparing Russian fakes about NATO with reality. Russia, committing war crimes against Ukraine, is trying to put all the labels on NATO, therefore it systematically spreads fakes against the political-military alliance. The main thing in the struggle for good against evil is the dominance of truth over lies”,- he added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Serhii Parkhomenko, speaking about the trends, noted that in April-May, propagandists actively justified the invasion of Ukraine by saying that Ukraine, having joined NATO, would try to return Crimea by military means. In the summer, propaganda media began to circulate fakes that NATO was unleashing a third world war and inciting Ukraine to attack Crimea. In July, in general, propagandists began to spin messages that Russia was already at war with NATO, and not even with Ukraine.<\/p>\n

“Obviously, in Russia they seriously began to form a public opinion that Russia is at war with the Alliance. However, despite the Kremlin's hysteria, Ukraine will certainly return Crimea, regardless of whether it is a member of the Alliance or not”,- he added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

“The Ukrainian people showed their courage by fighting for their sovereignty. And part of this struggle takes place in the information space. Ukraine has to contend with a daily stream of Russian disinformation and propaganda. Ukraine is basically the biggest target for Russian propaganda. That is, Ukraine is fighting the Russian Federation on land, in the air, at sea, as well as in the information space”,- Beata Patashova added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

She spoke about NATO's approach to countering disinformation and stressed that responding quickly to fake news is key, but it's also important not to overreact. You need to carefully consider when a loud reaction is needed, and when it is better not to pay more attention to a fake.<\/p>\n
