After the dramatic events of 2014 Crimean Tatars and other Indigenous Peoples of Ukraine have found themselves in a vulnerable position, aggravated by numerous arrests and repressions, persecution and non-recognition as Indigenous Peoples of Crimea.<\/p>\n

The side-event will focus on the analysis of threats to sustainable development of the Indigenous peoples of Crimea in conditions of an interstate conflict. Speakers will present information on discriminatory policy and practices of Russia as the aggressor-state in occupied Crimea against the representatives of Indigenous peoples, analyse the consequences of the ban of representative institution – Mejlis of the Crimean Tatars, and discuss ecological and humanitarian challenges facing Indigenous peoples of Crimea.<\/p>\n

A short version of the documentary film “Crimea. Dehydration” about the irrational usage of water resources by the Russian occupying regime in Crimea will be screened.<\/p>\n

The side event will conclude with a 20-minute Q&A session<\/p>\n

Key topics to be discussed<\/strong><\/p>\n

1.  The human rights situation in the Russia-occupied Crimea  as a threat to implementing Sustainable Development Goal 16.<\/p>\n

2. Ban of the representative body – the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people as a direct threat to the survival, preservation of dignity and development of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people in conditions of  the temporary occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.<\/p>\n

3. Environmental and humanitarian challenges for Crimea and its Indigenous peoples caused by the irrational and irresponsible activities of the Russian occupation administration.<\/p>\n

4. Legal assessment of the actions of the occupation administration of the Russian Federation in Crimea in the context of achieving the Goals by 2030.<\/p>\n
