This indicator is almost 2 times less than the indicators for 2019 and 2018 and is almost identical to the number of searches in 2017 (62). Such dynamics, according to the experts of the CTRC, is associated with the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&ldquo;Despite the decrease in the number of searches in the reporting period, the trend of conducting mass searches on suspicion of involvement in the organizations&nbsp;Hizb ut-Tahrir and Jehovah&#39;s Witnesses banned in the Russian Federation remains unchanged. Also, formal reasons for conducting searches were allegedly participation in the Noman &Ccedil;elebicihan&nbsp;Crimean Tatar Volunteer&nbsp;Battalion, espionage in favor of Ukraine, extremism, incitement to hatred or enmity, etc.&rdquo;,- stressed the head of the board of the&nbsp;CTRC.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/files\/ck\/image\/quick-folder\/139361044_439542224066222_1398134072172731643_n.jpg\" style=\"width: 800px; height: 450px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Over the past year, 280 arrests were recorded in the occupied Crimea, 229 of which were against Crimean Tatars. This figure is almost 2 times more than last year (157); in 2018, 128 cases were known. This indicator is also showing a decline.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&ldquo;As a rule, arrests are carried out after searches, however, arrests are also systematically recorded at the administrative border with the occupied Crimea. The main formal reasons for the arrests were allegedly: involvement in the organizations banned in the Russian Federation Hizb ut-Tahrir and Jehovah&#39;s Witnesses, participation in the Noman &Ccedil;elebicihan&nbsp;Crimean Tatar Volunteer&nbsp;Battalion, failure to report a crime, public calls for terrorist \/ extremist activities, preparation for participation in a terrorist organization, espionage in favor of Ukraine, illegal acquisition, storage, transportation of explosives, ammunition, etc.&rdquo;,- said Bariiev.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 2020, 92 cases of interrogations,&nbsp;interviews&nbsp;and conversations were recorded in the occupied Crimea, 45 of which were against representatives of the Crimean Tatar people. Compared to previous years, the number of interrogations over the same period has decreased: in 2019, 194 cases of interrogations were recorded during the year, in 2018 &#8211; 152, in 2017 &#8211; 340.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&ldquo;In 2020, 252 cases of arrests were recorded, 199 of which were against representatives of the indigenous people. Out of 254 cases: 47&nbsp;are&nbsp;new arrests, 16 &#8211; sentences, 189 &#8211; extensions of detention for political prisoners of Crimea. In this category, we observe the following trend: in 2019, there were 335 cases of arrests, in 2018 &#8211; 207, and in 2017 &#8211; 46&rdquo;,-&nbsp;said the&nbsp;Head of the&nbsp;Board of the CTRC.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Despite such dynamics, the policy of systemic extensions of detention terms, new arrests and the imposition of long terms of imprisonment for political prisoners in Crimea has remained unchanged in recent years. During the reporting period, 16 people were sentenced to terms ranging from 3.8 to 19 years in prison, 47 were taken into custody (some were subsequently released or placed under house arrest).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to Tetiana Podvorniak, 424 cases of violations of the right to a fair trial were recorded in 2020, 355 of which were against representatives of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people. This figure is less than last year&#39;s for the same period: 692 cases were recorded in 2019, 492 in 2018, and 515 in 2017.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&ldquo;Nevertheless, such statistics indicate the deliberate holding of more than 100 political prisoners in custody, the illegal use of Russian legislation for political purposes, in particular, with the aim of suppressing the non-violent struggle of Crimean Tatars and pro-Ukrainian activists and their protest against the occupation of Crimea. During the reporting period, there were recorded massive cases of prolongation of detention periods, rejection of appeals and petitions of lawyers&quot;,- Podvorniak said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/files\/ck\/image\/quick-folder\/138824222_170573551484598_909912459631171344_n.jpg\" style=\"width: 800px; height: 450px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In addition, during this period, 138 cases of violation of the right to the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health were recorded, 111 of which were in relation to the Crimean Tatars. This indicator exceeds last year&#39;s for the same period: in 2019, 134 cases of violation were recorded, in 2018 &#8211; 57, in 2017 &#8211; 38.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&ldquo;During the reporting period, cases of non-provision of adequate medical care in places of detention were recorded on an ongoing basis, especially in the context of the coronavirus pandemic. It is known that not all political prisoners were provided with personal protective equipment. Such actions, in turn, led to a deterioration in health. At the same time, the petitions of lawyers were often ignored&rdquo;,-&nbsp;said the communications manager of the CTRC.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In addition, as Tetiana Podvorniak noted, 77 cases of transferring political prisoners of Crimea were recorded in 2020, 70 of which were against representatives of the indigenous people. Last year, 96 cases of&nbsp;tranferring&nbsp;were reported in the same period.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The CTRC report also contains information on systemic cases of vandalism, violation of religious rights, inadequate conditions of detention in pre-trial detention centers and prisons, violation of the rights of political prisoners and illegal military exercises in the occupied Crimea.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lawyer Aider Azamatov noted that in 2020 new methods of suppressing peaceful actions, peaceful gatherings of people who just want to support those in jail and prisons were recorded. The defender cited as an example the situation of the detention of activists on the Kerch bridge.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/files\/ck\/image\/quick-folder\/138165851_2824979597820079_8760595316473203667_n.jpg\" style=\"width: 800px; height: 450px;\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&ldquo;2020 was a very difficult year due to the pandemic, in connection with which our clients suffer in pre-trial detention centers, they are taken out with high fever to court hearings, to investigative actions, etc. We say that you cannot do this. And we, the defenders, are ourselves at risk when we communicate with people who may be suffering from coronavirus.
