“Crimea is now a gray zone where representatives of the Russian occupation authorities systematically violate human rights and international humanitarian law, where anyone can be charged with extremism or terrorism, even those who have not committed any crime”,- Korynevich said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

During his speech, the presidential representative in the ARC stressed that political persecution leads to the illegal detention of our citizens for demonstrating their pro-Ukrainian position and turning them into political prisoners on charges of extremism, terrorism, and so on.<\/p>\n

Korynevich also recalled the forced conscription into the armed forces, the militarization of the educational process in the temporarily occupied Crimea, the erasure of the Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar national identity by the Russian occupation authorities and the movement of citizens of the Russian Federation to the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.<\/p>\n

In addition, Anton Korynevich noted the long-term repressions against religious communities that are facing persecution in the temporarily occupied Crimea, in particular, Jehovah's Witnesses and some Muslim organizations.<\/p>\n

“The Orthodox Church of Ukraine is one of the religious communities of Crimea, which is facing an extremely difficult situation. After the temporary occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol by the Russian Federation, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church found itself in a very difficult situation. Before the occupation, there were 49 parishes of the Crimean diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church – Kyiv Patriarchate (now – the Orthodox Church of Ukraine), including 25 churches and 20 clergymen throughout the peninsula, but now there are only a few parishes and a few priests”,- he added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
