Occupants arrested two residents of Ukraine on suspicion of participation in the Noman Çelebicihan Crimean Tatar Volunteer Battalion

30 July 2022

Over the past few days, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center has become aware of at least two cases of arrest of residents of Ukraine on suspicion of participation in the Noman Çelebicihan Crimean Tatar Volunteer Battalion, which the Russian Federation previously recognized as a terrorist organization.

According to the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, on July 21 in the village. Salkove, Henichesk district, Crimean Tatar Ihor Khalilov was detained. He was taken out with a bag over his head and placed in the Simferopol pre-trial detention center.

According to the Center for Journalistic Investigations, on July 22, a retired captain of the 1st rank, former commander of the Slavutych command ship of Ukraine Oleksii Kyseliov, born in 1964, was detained in Henichesk. It is known that at first the man was taken to an unknown place, where he was probably tortured, after which Oleksii was also placed in the Simferopol pre-trial detention center.

These people are accused of participating in the Noman Çelebicihan Crimean Tatar Volunteer Battalion, which on June 1 the Supreme Court of Russia recognized as a terrorist organization and banned its activities on the territory of the Russian Federation.

Recall that during the period of a full-scale war in Ukraine, the CTRC recorded 10 arrests of residents of the occupied Kherson region in this so-called case.

The Crimean Tatar Resource Center strongly protests and states that the detention of Ukrainian citizens in this so-called case is illegal, politically motivated and criminal. Such a policy of the Russian Federation demonstrates the struggle against the political convictions of people in the occupied Crimea and the territory of the occupied Kherson region.

The Crimean Tatar Resource Center demands the immediate release of the defendants in the so-called Noman Çelebicihan case, as well as all political prisoners.
