On Thursday, May 18, a mourning rally dedicated to the 73rd anniversary of the deportation of the Crimean Tatars was held on Independence Square in Kiev. More than 500 people of different nationalities took part in the event.
Leaders of the Crimean Tatar people,MPs of Ukraine Mustafa Dzhemilev and Refat Chubarov, the Head of the party "Defenders of the Fatherland" Yuri Karmazin, the rector of TNU Vladimir Kazarin, the representative of the "Right Sector" Viktor Sergulets, representatives of the clergy Suleyman Khayrullaev and Said Ismagilov addressed the rally. The host of the rally was a member of Mejlis, the Head of the CTRC Eskender Bariiev.
The meeting began with the hymns of Ukraine and the Crimean Tatars. The participants held national flags, portraits of political prisoners, missing and dead people in Crimea over the occupation period, as well as banners with the slogans "No genocide of the Crimean Tatar people!", "No dialogues" with Putin,unless Crimea is cleaned of Russian ocupants," Crimean Tatars" - the indigenous people of Ukraine "and others.
The children from the NGO "Krimska Rodina" Crimean Family participated in the event. They read the poem of Ablyaziz Veliyev "To My People".
At the end of the meeting, the participants adopted a resolution.
According to the Decree of the President of Ukraine of May 16, 2014, every year May 18 is celebrated as the Day of struggle for the rights of the Crimean Tatar people. According to the Decree of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of November 12, 2015, "On admitting the genocide of the Crimean Tatar People". The May 18 was also recognized as the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Deportation of the Crimean Tatar People.
