RF challenges international organizations - Bariiev

5 October 2021

The Russian government has blocked an OSCE Human Dimension Implementation Meeting, which was due to open in Warsaw on 27 September. Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, Head of the Department of Legaland Foreign Affairs of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, Eskender Bariiev, in an interview with the UA: Crimea media agency commented on these UN actions, stating that in this way the Russian Federation challenges international organizations.

“The Russian Federation challenges international organizations, challenges the international community. The Russian Federation is trying to demonstrate that it plays the first violin and is an influential subject of all these processes, and in particular in the OSCE”,- the expert said.

It should be noted that the first serious disagreements between the Russian Federation and the OSCE appeared during the elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation.

“The OSCE planned to send its observers to Russia, as the mandate allows. This is done so that the organization can recognize the elections as democratic and give its assessment of the process. Many countries are guided by the position of the OSCE. Thus, the legitimacy of this or that power is confirmed. But the Russian Federation limited the powers of the OSCE and began to dictate its own conditions, in connection with which the OSCE ignored the elections”,- Bariiev explained.
