Occupants continue to discredit the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people - Bariiev

4 October 2021

Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, Head of the Department of Legal  and Foreign Affairs of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, Eskender Bariiev, in an interview with the Apostrophe TV channel said that the Russian Federation continues to discredit the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, and this process has been going on for more than seven years.

“Since February 2014, the occupants have been trying to come to an agreement with the Mejlis. They sent their negotiators. They hoped that the Mejlis would support the Russian Federation, but then the representative body of the Crimean Tatar people clearly took the position of supporting the territorial integrity of Ukraine”,- the expert said.

Bariiev added that in 2016 the court of the Russian Federation recognized the Mejlis as an extremist organization and decided to ban it on the territory of the Russian Federation. But in spite of everything, the Mejlis continues to resist the occupants and continues to fight for the return of Crimea, and this does not suit the occupier.

“The extreme point for the Russian Federation was the participation of the Mejlis in the Crimean Platform. That is why the so-called explosion of the gas pipeline was initiated and of course the First Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Nariman Dzhelialov, was accused of this”,- he explained.

Then, according to the expert, active rhetoric began in this direction. The invaders began to say that the Mejlis is a group, a terrorist organization. More than 2.5 thousand people are already under attack.

“And in this way they, among other things, are trying to convince the Crimeans, and even more so the Crimean Tatars, that the Mejlis is a terrible organization”,- said the Head of the Board of the CTRC.
