For the eighth year now, the Russian Federation has continued its illegal occupation of Crimea. For the eighth year, the Russian Federation violates the rights of the inhabitants of the peninsula and carries out systemic repressions against the disloyal towards the Russian Federation population.
All actions of the Russian Federation are criminal, politically motivated, and grossly violate international law. Sanctions are the most important tool for containing Russian aggression and ongoing repression.
Until now, the EU sanctions, which concern Crimea, have been applied only against persons involved in the violation of Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity, and not against those involved in human rights violations in the occupied peninsula. Judges, investigators, prosecutors, FSB officers and representatives of the security forces remain unpunished.
The Crimean Tatar Resource Center is systematically working towards the adaptation of laws analogous to the Magnitsky Act in order to introduce personal sanctions against persons responsible for human rights violations in Crimea; administrations of the Russian Federation.
In addition, the team of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center prepared a list of 166 people violating human rights from the aforementioned categories.
We are confident that only with active joint opposition to gross violations of human rights in Crimea will we be able to protect not only the indigenous people of Crimea - the Crimean Tatars and Ukrainians, but also Europe and the whole world.
