Bariiev stressed the importance of the adoption of the law On Indigenous Peoples

Head of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, Head of the Department of Legal and Foreign Affairs of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Eskender Bariiev, in an interview with the ATR TV channel, commented on the draft law On indigenous Peoples, which was submitted to the parliament of Ukraine by Volodymyr Zelensky, and stressed the importance of its adoption.

“It incorporates many points of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, incorporates those projects that were submitted by the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, and a number of public organizations, in particular, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center. This law provides an opportunity to further develop and, most importantly, to ensure rights indigenous peoples”,- he said.

Bariiev stressed that in the bill:

the definition of indigenous peoples is revealed – in the Ukrainian legal field there is a clear formulation of who belongs to the indigenous peoples of Ukraine.

it is noted that the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people will become a subject of international law, that is, it will be included in the register of legal entities, but it will have a special status. It will be able to open his own account and receive funding from the state budget.

it is stipulated that subsoil, land, minerals can be used only in agreement with representative bodies.
