Ukraine must be ready for the reintegration of Crimea - Eskender Bariiev

19 July 2020

The Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, a member of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Eskender Bariiev on the air of the UA: Crimea TV channel, commenting on the creation of 10 new districts in Crimea as part of the decentralization reform, said that this is, first of all, economic expediency, but these actions are also possible viewed as a political process to demonstrate to the international community and Ukrainians that Crimea is part of Ukraine.

Bariiev noted that when we talk about decentralization, we are primarily talking about strengthening the territorial communities, with the aim of uniting them in the UTC (united territorial community) and, accordingly, so that they can use their budget, their territory.

The Head of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center stressed that Ukraine should be ready not only for the de-occupation of Crimea, but also for its reintegration.

“We must clearly and systematically collect information: what kind of logistics, what is the connection between cities, what is the connection between settlements, what roads, what hospitals. After all, this all changes during the occupation. We must predict: what will be the population, what will be the ethnic composition. As at the heart of decentralization are communities”,- he explained.
