Crimean Tatars Have No Future in Russia – Bariiev

23 January 2020

Eskender Bariiev, the head of the board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, a member of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, commenting on the repressions and countless human rights violations in the occupied Crimea, said that the Crimean Tatars have no future in the Russian Federation, as Russian authorities have repeatedly tried to destroy the Crimean Tatar people over the course of history. The head of the CTRC believes that the Crimean Tatars need to continue their nonviolent and creative struggle for their rights.

A member of the Mejlis also commented on the March of Dignity planned for May 2 to the occupied Crimea and an attempt to present allegations under article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine to the former representative of the President in Crimea, ex-government commissioner for ECHR Boris Babin. Bariiev believes that such actions may be related to the future position of Ukraine in the case “Ukraine vs. Russia” in the ECHR, as it is precisely in 2020 that they should consider the eligibility of Ukraine's statements.
