President of Ukraine will be presented with a draft national action plan for the protection of indigenous peoples of Ukraine

In Kyiv, a working meeting of the leadership of the Representative Office of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea with the representatives of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, delegates of the Qurultay of the Crimean Tatar People and public organizations was held. At the meeting, the Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, a member of the Mejlis Eskender Bariiev said that in the near future the CTRC and the Mejlis will present a draft national action plan for the protection of indigenous peoples of Ukraine to the President of Ukraine.

Crimean Tatar Resource Center Calls Ukraine to Join Indigenous Peoples Initiative to the UNSG Climate Summit

On Tuesday, 3 September at noon, in the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center held a briefing, where the speakers called Ukrainian government to join officially the indigenous peoples initiative to the UNSG Climate Summit. Speakers explained why it is important for Ukraine to join this initiative and how it relates to the deterioration of ecology in the occupied Crimea.

The need to adopt the Law on Indigenous Peoples of Ukraine declared by both Ukrainian and foreign experts

On Friday the 9th of August at the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center the Crimean Tatar Resource Center and the Estonian Institute of Human Rights held a round table dedicated to the realization of the rights of indigenous peoples in Ukraine and around the world with its problems and prospects. Participants stated the need to adopt the Law on Indigenous Peoples of Ukraine, a national action plan of the protection of the rights of indigenous peoples and once more emphasized on the importance of ratifying ILO C169 and amending Section X of the Constitution of Ukraine.

The 9th of August - International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples

Each year on the 9th of August the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples is celebrated. It was approved by resolution of the UN General Assembly in 1994. In the world there are about 370 million indigenous people living in 90 countries. They belong to 5,000 various and unique cultures and speak the vast majority of world's languages, the total number of which is approximately 7 000. One of the indigenous peoples of Ukraine are the Crimean Tatars, who are currently being subjected to constant persecution and pressure from the Russian authorities. The team of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center congratulates everyone on the International Day of Indigenous Peoples of the World!
