Seven years ago, on March 18, 2014, Sergey Kokurin the ensign of the Ukrainian military unit in Crimea was shot dead by the Russian military. He became the second victim of Russian occupants on the peninsula. He was killed by two shots – in the head and in the heart area – from AK-47 during the assault of the 13th photogrammetric center in Simferopol. During the assault, Kokurin stationed on watch of the observation tower of the military unit. The prosecutor’s office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea opened a criminal case under Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (“murder”).

According to the website of CENSOR.NET, the assault of the photogrammetric center was carried out by the division of Russian mercenaries under the command of Colonel of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation Igor Strelkov (Girkin). According to the official conclusion about the causes of death, Kokurin was killed by 5.45 mm machine gun bullets fired from the bottom up. This means it was not a sniper shot – he was shot dead by a member of Girkin's spetsnaz. This fact refutes all statements made both by Vladimir Putin and the Russian media that Crimea was allegedly seized "without any victim".
