On Wednesday, March 17, during an informal meeting of the UN Security Council on Crimea on the Arria formula, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said that at a politicized event that took place on March 12, Western countries created a distorted image and a false impression of the situation on the peninsula.
“I will not dwell on the politicized event held on March 12 this year. I will only emphasize that the invited speakers were carefully selected in such a way as to create a distorted image and a false impression of the situation on the peninsula. Even the UN representative, Assistant Secretary General, Ms. Ilze Brands Keris, in her speech relied on one-sided information from dubious sources”,- the message said.
Nebenzya argues that, unlike the previous discussion, the speakers represent different social circles of the multinational Crimea.
“Today our goal was to show how ordinary people live in Crimea. It is a pity that our Western colleagues ignored the words of the Crimeans and reiterated their mantras about the alleged Russian aggression and occupation. We are also very sorry that our Ukrainian colleagues did not join us today. Unfortunately for Ukraine, it lost Crimea because of its own mistakes made seven years ago. The crudest of them was that Ukraine did not listen to the voice of the Crimean population”,- he added.
