Search aggravated the illness of political prisoner Yashar Shykhametov

The political prisoner Yashar Shykhametov, who was detained on February 17 after mass searches, suffers from chronic hypertension. The actions of the Russian security forces caused stress, which exacerbated the course of the disease. This was reported by the Crimean Solidarity public assosiation.

“Yashar's state of health leaves much to be desired”,- said the lawyer, as his client suffers from chronic hypertension and needs to take medications for blood pressure for the whole life. The search and detention caused stress, which undoubtedly aggravated the course of Shykhametov's illness”,- the statement said.

We remind that on February 17, Russian security officials conducted seven searches in the houses of the Crimean Tatars in Bilohirsk, Bakhchysarai, Simferopol, Sevastopol and the Sovietsk district of the occupied Crimea. The detainees are charged with Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The so-called Kyiv District Court and the so-called Leninsk District Court have chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention until April 15, 2021 for the detained Crimean Tatars – Ernest Ibrahimov, Tymur Yalkabov, Azamat Eiupov, Oleh Fedorov, Lenur Seidametov and Yashar Shykhametov.
