Big names are needed to legitimize the annexation of Russia – Shcherba

February 1, 2021

Ambassador of Ukraine to Austria Oleksandr Shcherba in an interview with the Austrian edition of Die Presse, commenting on the construction of an opera house in Sevastopol by the Austrian architect Wolf Pryx, said that to legitimize the annexation of Crimea, Russia needs big names.

“Putin is trying to pretend that the occupation of Crimea was not the first in Europe since Hitler's time, and that it did not lead to a war, which is still burning in the Donbas. This is the plan of every occupier: first occupation, then legitimization. To legitimize it Russia resorts to loud names, people who are indifferent to the trampled underfoot of international law. Well-known politicians who travel to the occupied territories of Ukraine. Well-known singers who sing there. Well-known firms that do business there. Russia is ready to pay generously for the conscience of Europe. So far unsuccessful”,- he said.

Let's remind that the previously known Austrian architectural bureau Coop Himmelblau announced that it is participating in the construction of an opera house in Sevastopol. The Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea opened criminal proceedings against the bureau.
