Hizb ut-Tahrir case defendants’ appeals dismissed

15 November 2019

On Friday, the 15th of November, the so-called Supreme Court of Crimea rejected appeals from the so-called Hizb ut-Tahrir case defendants Lenur Khalilov, Ruslan Nagaev, Enver Omerov, Riza Omerov and Ayder Dzhepparov to extend their detention. They will remain in jail until the 5th of February 2020. The aforementioned was reported by lawyers Islyam Velilyaiev and Kostiantyn Rustemov, Crimean Solidarity reported.

Also, lawyer Islyam Velilyaiev added that on Monday the appeal of two more persons involved in the so-called Alushta Hizb ut-Tahrir case, Ruslan Mesutov and Eldar Kantimirov, will be considered.

In addition, Velilyaiev said that his client, Ruslan  Nagaev, held a speech and claimed that he did not agree with this charge.

"He claimed that he did not agree with this accusation, these actions were aimed atmaking him leave the territory of the Republic of Crimea. He also said that he was not going to leave anywhere and did not agree with the accusation and with all the actions committed by the authorities",- the lawyer said.

Lawyer Kostyantin Rustemov noted that his client Enver Omerov has a rather serious illness that makes his stay in jail almost unbearable. According to him, this information was not taken into account by the so-called court.

"From my part, I filed a petition to the investigator so that an appropriate medical examination would be carried out. If the petition is approved by the investigator, then a medical examination will be carried out and after it is done it will be decided whether Enver Omerov can be incarcerated in jail or not",- lawyer Rustemov said.

We remind  that on the 10th of June, Russian security forces conducted mass searches of Crimean Tatars' houses in Alushta, Bilogorsk and Simferopol. As a result, 8 people were detained on suspicion of their membership in the Hizb ut-Tahrir organization banned in the Russian Federation. On the 10th  and 11th of  June the so-called Kyiv District Court of Simferopol chose preventive measure in the form of detention until the 5th of August for the individuals arrested after these searches, namely for Riza Omerov, Enver Omerov, Ayder Dzhepparov, Eskender Suleymanov, Ruslan Nagaev, Eldar Kantimirov, Ruslan Mesutov and Lenur Khalilov .

On October 31, the Kyiv district “court” of Simferopol extended the term of arrest until February 5, 2020 to Lenur Khalilov, Ruslan Nagaev, Ruslan Mesutov, Eldar Kantimirov, Enver Omerov, Riza Omerov and Ayder Dzhepparov.
